Instructor Materials

Alexander Chapter 1 – The Rebirth of Caste

THe PowerPoint for this video is here.

Coates – The Case for Reparations

Powerpoint on Coates

I have given a great deal of thought to this section. Normally I review the reading and talk about the important elements in a PowerPoint that may or may not be entertaining or helpful.

But today, that just didn’t seem like the appropriate way to handle this material. It’s not my story and I shouldn’t make it my story.

So instead, here are several videos from Ta-Nehisi Coates himself, talking about The Case for Reparations at West Point (that’s the long one), and two videos of a conversation he had with Chris Hayes on MSNBC’s All In.   During those videos he is talking about his article The First White President, that has now been added to your list of readings.

I know we will be spending time on your bill selection on Friday, but we will also spend time of this material.  Please come prepared to share your thoughts.

The 2017 Zengerle Lecture “The Case for Reparations” at West Point – the intro is also revealing as well as his lecture itself.

Discussion with Chris Hayes regarding The First White President – Video one and Video two.

If you are getting into this discussion, here is a video of Coates regarding his latest book – We Were Eight Years in Power.
