Welcome to Social Welfare Policy 2019, SW 7600 Section 003. I am Dr Palmiter, your instructor. This welcome page provides an outline for how this class is structured. We will also review all of this information at our first in person class on January 18th. The three in person sessions will be January 18th, February 15th and March 15th from 12:30 to 3 pm.
On iCollege
All of the course documents will be located in the course content section of iCollege. This is for your convenience. But the core of the course information will be located on our website – swpolicyworks.info. There is a link in the announcement at the front of the iCollege page for the class, and here. swpolicyworks.info or swpolicyworks.edublogs.org.
Grades will be posted to iCollege to provide confidentiality regarding your individual grades. Please do not email me through iCollege, but rather use my GSU email – mpalmiter@gsu.edu.
The Website
All of the class content is located on the website and organized by week. The weeks correspond to the weeks identified in the assignment grid. Please check the website each week, as content related to current events will be added weekly.
Each week’s page is organized in modules, again corresponding to the assignment grid. It includes the learning objectives for the week, the required readings, my videos and materials, any supplemental materials and assignments.
Voice Thread Posts
Your individual posts will be submitted via Voice Thread in the form of PowerPoint type video presentations. There is a link for the Vloice Thread page for this class on iCollege and is probably the best way to get started. The link leads you to the main page for our class on voice thread. It is here that you will create your threads and complete the 5 posts and your legislative Fact Sheet. This is the link. We will talk about how to make Voice Thread posts in class on the 18th.
Other Assignments
In addition to your Voice Thread Posts, you will complete a Midterm exam, a Legislative Fact Sheet, and the Legislative Brief. The Exam and Fact Sheet will be placed in a Dropbox on iCollege.
The Legislative brief will be a portfolio, located online. There is more information on the format of the brief on this website.
